Children went on a tour to learn about where food comes from and reasons why we shouldn’t waste food. Ingredients such as eggs can be made into many different and new dishes, such as cakes and noodles.
Our Eco-guide provided us with a tour around their herb garden and we were also able to smell, touch and see different types of herbs such as pandan, ginger, butterfly pea flower, lemongrass and mint. In addition, we were able to identify these herbs and spices in some dishes we see daily such as pandan cake that we have for teabreak in school!
Following, we learnt about the different types of planting in the world. Due to the land constraints in Singapore, our country has also adopted a few planting ideas such as vertical farming and rooftop gardens.
Our children experienced soil-less planting just by using styrofoams, seeds (baby bokchoy) and water! We watered the plant daily and observed their growth at home for two weeks!
