Our theme for the SSDB 2018 is “Sowing Love with Little Hands”. We hope to inculcate in our children the spirit of giving and good values by teaching them to use their little hands to sow love for the elderly and to care for the nature.
We will be engaging our children in two major SSDB activities with a gardening theme. The first event is our forthcoming family day celebration - “Family Day with a Big Heart”. We will be organising a fun outing to a garden where LoveShine families can come together to enjoy nature, participate in a craft workshop and partner with the school to raise fund for SSDB. Our children will be putting up their beautiful craft works for sale on that day to do their part for charity. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the beneficiaries and the less fortunate of the President’s Challenge 2018!
The second event will involve the children from K1 and K2 class in “Love at St. Luke Home” in June 2018. We hope to bring joy and spread cheer to the elderly in the Home as they participate in a garden themed workshop with the children and spend time interacting with them. The children will also learn to use their little hands to love and care for the community as they mingle with the elderly and engage them in music and movement and fun games. It is all about learning to shine their love to care for people and giving back to the society.
Our K1 and K2 children had a fun and exciting launch party on 6 April 2018! The teachers explained to them the purpose of SSDB and the upcoming activities. They were engaged in planning how to take care of the school garden with their little hands and what are the little acts of kindness they can do to show love and care for the people in their community.
They started sowing a “Garden of Love” by potting plants into troughs and made a SSDB pledge with gusto together with their teachers to mark the start of this meaningful project.
At the end of the gardening, everyone enjoyed a cup of healthy and refreshing yogurt before they had their hearty lunch!
