As part of the project on sustainability, the childcare children were exposed to gardening and they planted edibles like shallots, leafy vegetables seeds, carrot top etc. The carrot tops were leftovers from our kitchen and instead of tossing it away, we decided to grow carrot greens to further minimise the wastage in our school as well as to educate the children that food waste can be turned into something useful. In conjunction with this project, the children were also educated on climate change and the impacts of it. Through this project, we aimed to help the children to develop a love for nature and to appreciate food in order to further reduce food waste. We hope that by cultivating such habits and by instilling such values in children at a young age, they will grow up to be environmentally conscious.
