Today, we were introduced to the many pleasant scent of herbs and spices such as parsley, cinnamon, oregano, coriander and a few others. It was our first time smelling these herbs. Not only do we get to smell, our teachers have also prepared and brought to class the actual herbs and spices for us to see and touch.
Indeed, it was an eye-opener for us as some of us do not even have a clue what was herbs & spices before this.
After a brief introduction on these herbs and spices, we moved on to the more exciting part of the lesson which was the making of our own playdough. As usual, our teachers ensured that we understood the process of making the playdough by showing us a demonstration, and since the procedures include using of hot water, they made us understood that safety is the utmost priority.
We took time to really identify & differentiate the herbs & spices.
The fun part of this activity is that, we decided to use expired flours instead of throwing it in the bin. It is all about recycling and reusing. We sure did get our hands dirty, literally, when we added colours to our mixtures.
It was a truly unique experience that our dearest teachers have presented us with!
After moulding our playdoughs, we get to add our preferred herbs and spices into our mixture. It was really an ‘out-of-the-classroom’ experience. Now, not only do we get to feel, we also get to see, smell our very own creation.
Today is indeed an interesting sensorial learning we have experienced!
