After one month of planting, the shallots have started to grow into spring onions! The children got to use a pair of scissors to cut the spring onions. The photos also illustrated that the children were learning how to pluck away the roots of the spring onions, washing the spring onions and chop it into small pieces. These are all first hand experiences for the children as they have never try it before! The children also got the opportunity to scoop and mix the spring onions with the eggs, and learn to stir it together with a pair of chopstick. The children were curious and excited to know how the spring onions taste like and they could not wait to taste the scrambled egg with spring onions!
As a follow up activity, the teacher read a news article with regards to home gardening and the children got to draw and write what types of plants they would like to grow in their home garden. The children have learnt that they could grow their own crops as an additional source of fresh produce. They also became more appreciative of the plants for producing vegetables and fruits for them.
