The children learnt how food waste happens.
They realised that there is a lot of food that is being thrown away! Some of the reasons are that: some food can’t be kept long, people order or take more than what they can finish, and food is not properly stored. They learnt about different ways to not waste food, like taking what they need, clearing their plates, saving leftovers for other meals, and composting food scraps.
They also discovered how bread is made from plant to plate. There are so many steps and it is such a long food supply chain! There is so much time, energy, effort and money that goes into producing the food we eat! This helped the children realise that food is precious.
The whole class then made a food pledge which they recited to promise to not waste food.
They also made a “Clean Plate” medal for themselves to remind themselves to not waste food and clear their plates.
