Start Small Dream Big 2024 - A little Act of Kindness.

The goal of this year’s Start Small, Dream Big (SSDB) 2024 initiative is to foster the value of kindness in children as part of their everyday lives. Here is our timeline for the project that we planned out for the children.

Introduction to Kindness

The Kindergarten 1 & 2 Children from PCF Sparkletots Preschool Blk 483 were introduced to the concept and purpose of SSDB for this year which was held on 10 July 2024. They were also introduced to the topic that we will be focusing on -Kindness. For a better understanding on the topic Kindness, children were encouraged to watch a video by Kindsville, “A Little Kindness”. Children were engaged into a discussion to identify the acts and impact of kindness towards others. Children contributed their thoughts and views that were recorded onto flipchart paper.

Kindness Reward Chart

In addition, children were introduced to Kindness reward chart that will be used for tracking their kind deeds in the classroom. Children and teachers brainstormed 7 kind acts and wrote them down onto the kindness reward chart. At the end of each week, children were encouraged to reflect back on their kind acts and they would determine whether they deserve a sticker on the chart as a class. Children had fun evaluating their kind acts together with their peers and teachers and they had learnt an important values that should be practiced everyday.

Learning Journey - Kidztropic Cove (K1 & K2)

We had organised a fieldtrip to Kidztropic Cove for our Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2 children as part of our SSDB project - Kindness. This is to give the children the opportunity to learn and practice kindness in various forms through interactive activities, role-play, stories and discussions. This programme helps to enhance the children’s imagination, creativity and social responsibility through the fun facilities at Kidztropic Cove.

A Community project: Collaboration with Temasek Polytechnic

Through learning and practicing the value of Kindness, we had collaborated with Temasek Polytechnic on a community project to raise awareness about the lives and needs of the elderly people. Children and parents contributed donations of driedgoods. Children were involved in packing the dried goods into hampers for theresidents of Jamiyah Nursing Home guided by the Temasek Polytechnic students. In addition, our K1 and K2 children were also involved in writing cards for the residents to brighten up their days!

My Kind of Fridge

Our school runs a program called ‘My Kind of Fridge,’ which bringstogether students, parents, and the community to support those in need.We encourage parents to contribute by donating items like vegetables, fruits, dried goods, and biscuits to the school. The students then takethese donations and place them in a fridge located near the school. For this round, we’ve decided to expand our efforts by delivering the food items directly to residents’ homes. This approach allows children to practice kindness and learn how to contribute to their community using resources from home.

Financial Literacy Bazaar (K2)

In view of our K2 children going to Primary School next year, the K2 children had a mini bazaar at school where they sold their own donated pre-loved items and crafts. The funds that were collected will be used to purchase care packs for the cleaners in the community as a form of appreciation and gratitude for keeping the area and environment clean. At the same time, we would also be educating the children on loving the Earth by keeping the environment clean and always be kind to the people who are helping the community.
