Teacher read the book ‘Fritter, The Wasteful Bestie’ which talks about Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Children suggested some of the ways to reuse and recycle plastics and papers, and reduce energy by saving electricity and water. They talked about how they can save the food by not asking for more than what they need. They recalled the ‘Happy Earth Day’ Home Project and shared their thoughts on how they can protect the Earth.
Children found things that are made from plastic, paper and metal and dramatised on recycling the items by putting them into the respective bins with colour codes. They also talked about how they can reuse each item. The children commented that they “can reuse the plastic container by keeping some erasers in it, reuse the metal container by using it as a drum and reuse the paper for drawing.”
Children arranged the materials according to metal, paper and plastic as they recalled how they reused the papers and cardboards for their Term 1 Home Project on ‘Traffic Lights’.
Children dramatised on recycling efforts by reusing the papers cups to make crayon holders.
The children revisited the SSDB pledge and showed appreciation for their peer’s home project that emphasised on caring for the Earth. They also continue with their SSDB journal activity booklet.
The children proudly presented their Home Project which was in line with the SSDB theme of ‘One Earth, One Dream’ which they learned about recycling and upcycling. Parents did the project with their children using recycled materials and created ‘My Neighbourhood’ and some did on transportation theme 3D model.
