LFP Bedok Reservoir - Sustainability Carnival 2024

Children were introduced to this year’s project, #FeedtheFuture by watching some videos about children in other parts of the world who do not have enough food and water. They watched and talked how children in these parts of the world live and eat. They discussed world hunger and how it impacts how we live.

Children empathised for hungry and malnourised children in other countries, exercising gratitude for the food they had. Children suggested different ways to help these less privileged children, such as to help plant fruits and vegetables for them. They also talked about how they should be grateful for the food they have by not wasting it.

Children discussed what we could do with food waste. We talked about planting our own food and using food waste as fertiliser.

As we talked about maintaining taking care of our food waste and growing our own food, the children were introduced to sustainability and what it meant. They decided to create upcycled objects from recycled materials. These objects would be given away during our Sustainability Carnival.

At the Sustainability Carnival, children enjoyed various game booths and winning prizes they had upcycled. The games were made from recycled items as well. Families were invited to enjoy the carnival games and carnival snacks. Children recalled the sustainability topics that had discussed as they talked about their upcycled crafts and how to use the pencil holders and bookmarks. They talked about taking only enough snacks and sharing with their families so as to not waste the food.

The carnival also collected donations for the games and tickets. The donations would go to our #FeedtheFuture project to help less privileged children. Children enjoyed the carnival while exercising their gratitude for having enough food and helping others in little ways.
