The event aimed to encourage children to communicate and interact with each other. Teachers from Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities (Choa Chu Kang) were invited to read a story to the children, teaching them about friendship. The children interacted in discussions, through questions and sharing their thoughts. Props and visuals were used to keep the session engaging and ensuring that every child could participate.
The next phase involved parents and children from MK working together on an art project for the children at THK. This activity was designed to build empathy and strengthen connections between parents and their children. The children wrote personal messages to go with the artwork, adding a personal touch and enhancing the bond between the children.
Games Day was organised to further promote socialisation. Children from both schools played interactive games, had snacks together, and exchanged crafts. The aim was to strengthen social bonds and encourage new friendships. Simple games were chosen to include everyone, and a reflection session allowed children to share their experiences and what they had learned.
Weekly social stories were read to reinforce understanding and cooperation. Stories about diversity, empathy, and cooperation were read and discussed each week. This helped children understand and appreciate differences and encouraged them to apply these lessons in their daily interactions.
To assess the project’s impact, feedback was collected from THK teachers about how well the children worked together and understood the project’s goals. Regular check-ins with co-form teachers helped monitor the children’s progress and allowed for adjustments to improve the project.
At the end of the project, the children drew pictures to express their experiences and what they had learned. A group discussion was held to reflect on their experiences and how the activities helped them understand their . community better.
The children’s achievements were celebrated, providing a sense of accomplishment and closure to the project.
