Another month past, another celebration! It’s time of the year where lanterns are lighted up and hanged as decorations to signify the celebration of Mid-Autumn!
From the sweet and savoury mooncakes to the tartness of the pomelo, we had it all during the festival! Children came to school, dressed in either yellow or blue, along with their hand-made lantern creations to showcase to their friends and teachers.
Children were introduced to the story of ‘Chang’e’, a lady who became immortal after drinking an elixir; some still believed that she’s still living in moon. It was said that her husband, a legend archer named Hou Yi, would present her favourite food (mooncake, pomelo, snacks) to reunite with her on every mid of month of the Autumn season.
Followed by, children were invited to sing and dance to the songs. Next, we also invited parent volunteers to have a live demonstration on ‘mooncake-making’. They demonstrated to children on how to do it and encouraged them to try making on their own using the mooncake mould provided. Children also had the opportunity to taste their own mooncakes and make comparison to the mooncakes which teachers bought for the celebration as well.
Lastly, children were brought out for their neighbourhood walk with their lanterns to play and proudly show-off their creative works which they made with their lovely parents! We had lots of fun celebrating together with our friends and teachers! ☺️
