For PCF Sparkletots Preschool @Braddell Heights 417’s Innovation Guidance Project cum SSDB focused on Animal Care and Conservation for the year 2018. The K1 and K2 children truly showcased their deep interest and love for animals during their kindness movement discussion last April this year.
The children decided that they wanted to learn everything there is to know about animals.
The children learned about the different classifications of animals as both K1 and K2 collectively discussed and went in depth to learn all there is to know about animals. The children were very interested to learn that they are indeed considered as mammals as well. They had a very peculiarly stunned look on their faces when they found out that they’re mammals too.
The children showed more interest in learning more about mammals, a video of marine and land mammals was shown to the children.
That following week, during current affairs, the children learned that the last northern male white rhinoceros has died which made the children really sad as they were learning about the importance of taking care of the animals. The children started asking more questions about the rhinos and why they were endangered which lead the children askingwhy are there not many rhinos left in the world?
The teacher eventually explained that rhinos are being hunted by poachers for their horns, which lead to more ‘whys’ coming from the children. The teachers and the children went to find out more about the rhinos, their existence and if rhinos are found in Singapore.
Through this IGP session, the K1 and K2 children found their next IGP 2018: Raising Rhino.
