The children from YCKC Kindergarten spent the whole of Term 1 learning about mental wellness, staying active, and healthy eating through various songs, books and activities. They recognized the importance of exercise and healthy eating habits. They also understood that healthy habits keep our body strong and fit. Without these, we easily fall sick and wouldn’t be able play, learn and do the things we love to do. For this reason, the children decided not only to strive to live a healthy lifestyle but to also serve the community by sharing about what they have learnt.
On 20 May, YCKC Kindergarten partnered with a welfare organization, Bless Community Services, to reach out and bless the community through the “BCS Community Fair”. The BCS Community Fair was a very successful event that brought the neighborhood together through food, fun activities, cooking demonstration, workshops, health screening and bouncy castle. Among these is our K2 children’s Health and Fitness booth.
The children prepared an activity for the community to learn how to have a well-balanced diet by introducing HPB’s My Healthy Plate. People of various age from the neighborhood came to visit our booth. There were very young children and elders, too. Minister of Parliament for Alunied GRC, Ms Sylvia Lim, was invited to grace the event as our guest-of-honour. She also visited our K2 children’s Health and Fitness booths
The children patiently guided the guests on how to create their own healthy plate. It was a very enriching experience for the children as they interacted with the people from the community.
Along with this, the children worked together to make handmade props for our photo booth to promote healthy lifestyle. The props were products of children’s own creative ideas.
Another highlight of the event is the Zumba workout led by our K2 children. The children enthusiastically danced to the song “Good Morning” as the people gathered together and gladly joined in for a fun time of exercise.
Our K1 children also performed a dance number during the opening ceremony.
This learning experience has left an indelible impression on our children and has helped them understand the value of reaching out to the community and how fulfilling it is to do so. At the same time, it was an opportunity for our children to build their confidence and remember that though they are young, they are able to achieve great things.
