For the first week of PCF Sparkletots @Braddell Heights 417’s “All About Cassowaries” K1 and K2 children learned about the different kinds of birds, what are its qualities, characteristics, similarities and differences. It was explained to them that each bird is unique.
The children were shown a few short video clips of the birds that fly and flightless birds–after this, the Cassowary was slowly introduced to the children. It was explained that the Cassowary is the closest thing that the modern world has to a prehistoric creature as a Cassowary is known to be one of the ancestor of a dinosaur.
After introducing the different kinds of birds to the children, the teachers incorporated the children’s knowledge about birds with their MSD lesson by allowing the kids to mimic the different movements of birds that they saw in the video.
