Different activities were done in the month of July for children to learn about water pollution.
- Causes of water pollution
The K2s watched a video on “Causes of water pollution.” At the end of the video, the children discussed and recorded the causes on a flip chart.
- Oil Spill Experiment
To further investigate the topic on “Water Pollution”, the children engaged in an experiment to learn about the effects of oil spills.
They role played that a collision took place and caused oil spill in the water. They used different tools such as a container, sponge, tissue and syringe to clean up the oil spill and discovered that it is impossible for the oil to be totally clear from the water.
They also placed feathers (representing birds) into the oil spill and when they tried to throw the feathers in the air, they found that the feathers are no longer light and doesn’t fly well in the air. As such, they realised that oil spills affect the birds and sea creatures.
- Water Pollution Poster
Children were asked to design a poster to convey their message on water pollution.
- Parents’ Involvement: Conserving water at home.
A message was sent home to the parents to work together to conserve water at home with their child.
