Reduce! Reuse! Recycle!
East Coast Park Beach Clean Up
Let’s be kind to our environment.
On 7th August, K2 children headed to East Coast Park to do their part in caring for the environment. They first read the book - “Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.” to gain some prior knowledge on the purpose and processes of recycling.
Children proceeded for their beach clean up, picking up waste along the beach. Children used tongs instead of gloves do as to reduce waste. After 10-15 minutes, the children managed to collect two bags of waste. Well done children! They displayed perseverance and commitment as they picked up waste enthusiastically. It was heartwarming to see children involved and interested in saving their environment.
After we collected the waste, children and parents played the game ‘Sort It Out’ together. It was a game that encouraged children to sort the waste they collected into different groups - plastic, paper and metal. Parents and children had to take a waste from the collection container, go through the mini obstacle course and put it inside the right recycling bin. Children learnt to classify waste so that new materials can be made out of it.
At the end of the event, children performed the song ‘Save my World’, representing their promise to take responsibility for their actions so as to save Mother Earth. It was great to see children display reflectiveness through their actions.
Children, parents and teachers enjoyed this meaningful event. We look forward to our next recycling adventure!
