Ms. Madeline Bolohan, an Education Executive from ACRES, visited LFP - Jurong East 248 to present ACRES’ “Wild but Not Free” campaign. Engaging the audience with an interactive game on animal welfare guidelines, she shed light on the grim realities of illegal animal trade and its repercussions. Drawing a clear distinction between companion animals and those that are imperiled, she enthused the young participants to explore the campaign booth and extend a helping hand to their furry counterparts.
Furthermore, the children were immersed in various activities aimed at educating them on ways to protect wildlife. In one activity tailored for younger children, they worked to free animals symbolized by entangled ropes and wires.
Older participants were sensitized to the perils of illegal poaching through the creation of compelling posters. They also designed bookmarks advocating against the consumption of products derived from unlawfully captured animals, like shark fin soup.
An additional activity involved constructing a 3D lion to emphasize the importance of valuing wild animals, as there is a looming threat that future generations may not witness these creatures due to illicit hunting practices.
Through these activities, both children and educators deepened their understanding of wildlife conservation, fostering a greater sense of empathy and awareness towards the plight of animals in captivity or under threat of harm.
