The rising cost water became the focus of our Start Small Dream Big Project. This was to raise the children’s awareness on the 30 percent increase of water cost. As a way to combat this, the students from Nursery to Kindergarten 2 have either wrote or drawn on a Water Wally to state their promise in saving water. To end off this stage, the children hung the Water Wallys’ on an oak tree branch.
Start Small Dream Big Launch Party
During this event, children were introduced to the different living conditions of people around the world and how water would be affected in this areas. An example is how people in South Africa has to travel a very long distance by foot in order to collect water from the river which are non-filtered. Along the way, the children were asked to share their feelings in which one said “I feel so sad that they have to walk so far and the water is dirty. Then they have to carry water. It is very very heavy.” It was very heartening to hear the children being eager to share their clean drinking water with the people over there. The children then shared the different initiative they have taken at home with their families in order to save water and minimise the cost. As a closure, all of the children from Nursery to Kindergarten 2 sang and danced to the song “Let’s go save water” which they really love as it has ways in teaching to save water.
Visit to NEWater Centre
On this day, a field trip was organised to the NEWater Centre. To kick start the tour given by the guide, our children sang and perform the “Let’s go save water!” song for the staffs and visitors. Children went through an introduction with a short clip on an explanation on NEWater which covers the different reservoirs and water conservation. Then, we were brought to an interactive game section whereby children learned on the various ways of saving water. Afterwards, we were taken on a tour to the gallery, showing the various ways on the process of the filtration of water to becoming drinkable clean NEWater.
