Our centre has participated in Start Small Dream Big 2020 (SSDB) to instil better understanding and awareness in children about people with a disability. (PWD)
Our centre has since collaborated with SPD (Serving People With Disabilities since 1964) in planning activities to further extend children’s learning and how they can play their part in contributing to the community. SPD has also loaned us some equipment (such as the wheelchair and the quad stick) for the children to explore and know its functions through hands-on activities. Children share about their experience and what they have observed on the equipment shown.
Children learn more about the different disabilities through story read by teachers, videos as well as hands-on activities that enable them to experience, what is it like, living without having the ability to hear, speak or see while doing the daily activities.
By implementing some of these ideas or others like them, we will be teaching children that they too can play a part in contributing a better community. We will also be helping them to appreciate that reaching out to others in need is a way of life, rather than a moment in time when desperate times occurs.
