Little Footprints @ Bukit Purmei has embarked in the Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project this year! This project aims to encourage children to take part in the pursuit of environmental sustainability.
To kick start the SSDB project, we partnered with Parents of our preschool to Reuse and Recycle things around their house to make DIY pots together with their children, which will be used for planting seeds.
The Kindergarten One from LFP @ Bukit Purmei were introduced to NEA’s book titled “Captain Green and the Race Against Waste” where they learnt how to tackle the problem of waste and find out what can be done to prevent it from taking over their home! They decided to be special agents to guide everyone in this journey together. They pledged to use the 3R’s- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. They contributed recyclable items such as plastic bottles, milk cartons, containers etc which were decorated in order to plant the vegetable seeds next week.
The Playgroup, Pre-Nursery and Nursery children were taught and introduced to various ways that they can care for plants and the action of planting through educational videos. Children learnt the importance of being responsible when caring for plants. Such as putting them in a place with plenty of sunlight, watering them daily and changing the pot when the plant grows bigger.
We ended this year’s launch party by inviting children to recall what was the SSDB project about and got them to express their creativity using a variety of art materials to make a seedling collage. The K1 and K2’s recorded their thoughts in the reflection book. And finally we sang the 3R’s song together!
