This year, the children of PCF Sparkletots @ Nee Soon East Blk 312 have embarked on the Start Small Dream Big Project to learn the deeper meaning of what it takes to care for the community in various ways.
Following our title, An Act of Kindness, children took intiative to care for the community in the ways that they can. The children visited the nearby garden to learn about the ways they can care for the plants and greenery around them. They actively engaged with the gardener and found out more about plant care, as well as the different types of plants that can be found around them. The children enjoyed the process of watering the plants and seeing many plantations in the garden.
Children also engaged in litter and rubbish picking around the neighbourhood. They used gloves and bags to collect the rubbish for recycling purposes or general waste. They learnt the differerent ways of discarding trash so as to be able to do it responsibly as Singapore citizens. This allowed an eye-opening experience for the children as they get to witness the litter around the places they live in, and how they can play a part in keeping the community clean.
In a nutshell, the activities children did together, acted as a fun and engaging way to kickstart the project. Moving forward, our children will be able to learn more about caring for the people and things around them, incorporating the values of being selfless and caring. Caring for our community is limitless and can involve many ways of showing care; including caring for our community helpers, environment and even community pets, which we hope to inculcate and introduce to our children in the weeks to come.
