Learning how to create paper using recycled paper
Moving on from our celebrations and various events, the children were also exposed to the idea of zero waste and the 3Rs during curriculum times.
In the month of June, the children would usually be engaged in the Builder’s Project whereby they explore a topic of their intetest. This time round, the children expressed an interest in understanding how paper was created. The children researched on simple and easy ways to create their own paper from scratch.
To begin, the children were encouraged to bring unwanted scrap paper from home. This aims to provide children with an understanding that these pieces of paper can be utilized in other ways to give them a brand new life. Moving on, the children shredded the collected paper using a shredder.
Then, they used recycled materials like plastic bottles to “shake” the paper mixed with water into pulp. Afterwards, a deckle was used to create a thin sheet of paper and all that was left was to let them dry!
A couple of days later, the children were greeted with brand new pieces of paper!
