We at PCF Sparkletots Preschool at Serangoon Blk 226 launched our SSDB Project in April with the Theme: Many helping hands, caring for everyone in collaboration with FOODBANK. Our Serangoon Adviser and our E.P. joined us in this event.
This project aims to help children to know and discover the little things they can do to help others. This will also help them to be socially responsible and contribute to a better and giving community.
After the launch, children became more aware of what our project is all about. In line with this year’s SSDB Theme, we decided to raise funds by selling crafts made by children. Crafts will be sold in exchange of food donations.
In the month of May, K1 and K2 children created posters that we displayed outside the centre to show parents and people in the neighbourhood. This is to create awareness of our project and about being kind and to instill the value of giving.
After a few weeks, children also created Donation boxes to put outside the classrooms for parents to drop their food donations.
After school holiday in July, K1 and K2 children continued the project by painting and designing their own tote bags to sell.
Since we have two interns this year, they also collaborated with the project and decided to help as well.
One intern taught K2 class to bake muffins.
The other intern taught K1 children to make bracelets.
N1 and N2 class make egg holder using recycled materials.
On 16th of August, all the teachers and staff displayed the children’s crafts and muffins at the void deck. Parents came to support us by donating food in exchange of the children’s crafts and muffins.
We ended our project by donating all the food items collected from the sales and from parents’ donations.
