We did a simple launch party on 20 July 2020 for the SSDB project, on the theme, ‘Heal the Earth, Heal our Future’. In this project, we encouraged all levels from Playgroup to K2 to take part. To kickstart the project, we engaged the children in the discussion about the importance of taking good care of the environment.
Prior to the launch party, we encouraged the parents to collect recyclable materials and send them to school.
For Playgroup - N2 level, we talked about the 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) and how we can make a difference for our environment.
The K1 and K2’s focus was on water conservation. SAVE WATER- SAVE LIFE !
The children illustrated how the water cycle helps us for water conservation.
They worked creatively together with their friends to create an image for the tag line SAVE WATER= SAVE LIFE
The K2 children went through a discussion pertaining to water conservation, with the use of the KWL chart to discuss based on their prior knowledge, seeking answers through questions and answers sessions and finally summing up on what they have learnt. The children asked questions such as “Where does water come from?”, “Does Singapore collect rainwater?” etc. The children discovered Singapore’s four national taps and the four ways water is cleaned before being safe for use. In retrospect, the children learnt about flash floods that used to occur in Singapore in the past as well as the dry seasons which brought about measures such as water rationing.
Our centre’s launch party is a huge success! A small action can go a very long way!
