The SSDB 2018 launch was held in conjunction with our Earth Day celebration on 20 April 2018. The title of our outreach project is “Grow in Love and Kindness”. Over the next few months, our children will engage in meaningful activities to learn and demonstrate acts of love and kindness towards their immediate community -be it their friends, loved ones, the environment or people who are different from them.
To kick start our community work, the grandparents, parents and children were invited to advocate acts of kindness with messages to remind one another how we can live out these beautiful values. They helped the Kindergarten to grow leaves on the tree that was created on the bulletin board. ‘Leaf-a-message’ of love and kindness was well participated by all. They also wrote and decorated ‘kindness’ messages on pre-cut door knobs and brought home to share with friends and neighbours or hang at home to remind each other to be kind.
To add fun and excitement to the launch, grandparents, parents, teachers and children worked together to create outfits with recyclable materials. Here again, we are sharing that kindness can also be extended to the environment. Some materials need not be discarded but can be turned into something new or re-usable. Every one had fun doing the catwalk to showcase their pretty creations. The message: Let’s reuse, use it in a new way. Let’s recycle, make it into something new. Let’s be kind to our environment.
