The Kindergarten 1 children embraced the value of responsibility by revisiting their responsibility for the plants they have been planting. They discussed the various ways of showing responsibility through caring for the plants: watering the plants regularly, check if the plants are ready for harvesting (e.g. green bean pods turn black to harvest the green bean seeds), touching the plants gently and telling them positive words like “I love you!” as well as looking out if seedlings are ready to be transferred to a bigger space to grow. The children agreed to take turns with the different responsibilities each week!
The Kindergarten 2 children got to make a trellis for the cucumber plants which the K1s had planted. The K2s helped them design and made a trellis to help it climb and grow! They discussed plants that climb and don’t have a hard stem, hence rely on trellises or fences to climb and grow. As the cucumber plants were in pots, the children arranged them into a circle, and some of them helped to stick the dowels into the pots and slowly connected them at the top to make a trellis!
They tied the top up and there you have it!
The children continued to show care and responsibility for their plants over the weeks!
