Project 3Rs is all about “Reuse, Reduce and Recycle”. It is to create awareness to children, parents and the community about the importance of reuse, reduce and recycle.
Phase 1 of the project focuses on the 3R - Recycle. Children learn about the different types of materials that can be recycled and the process of recycling. We went on a filed trip to the Envision Gallery located at Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWRS) to have a deeper understanding about the 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
We also seek collaboration with parents to donate used recyclable materials into our centre’s recycling bin. Children will then gather the materials and put them into the blue recycling bin located near the centre.
Moving on, children from toddlers to kindergarten 2 practiced recycling by remaking papers using used papers. The younger age group children were able to use their senses and fine motor skills to tear and mash the papers into pulp. The older age group children were able to apply their knowledge into practise.
To wrap up phase 1 of the project, children are to share what they have learnt about recycling to their parents and come up with a poster about the process or the importance of recycling.
