With this year’s theme: ‘Sustainable Garden Using Recyclable Materials’, children from Playgroup to Kindergarten 2 of PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Changi Simei Blk 131 embarked on the project which started last 19th April 2023.
We started with outdoor planting of edible seeds such as Kailan, Cai Xin and Xiao Bai Cai. We also used recyclable materials such as water bottles to do water irrigation on our flowering plants.
Children were also invited to do vermicomposting technique whereby earthworms convert waste material with rigid structures into compost. The compost produced in this green process is traditionally and popularly used as a natural fertilizer for enhancing plant growth.
Our mission is to have a sustainable garden where we respect and renew natural resources and utilizes them with consideration for future generations.
A renewable garden incorporates eco-friendly gardening practices in harmony with Mother Nature. Instead of forcing the earth to produce what we want, we work with nature to find the best way to grow what we need.
Moving forward, our school will continue on our ‘Go Green’ project which aims on having a sustainable garden whereby teachers, parents and children will continue to embrace the culture of gardening without using harmful products for our flowering plants and edible produce.
We would also continue to work on our collaboration with our stakeholders: NParks and SparkleCare (senior care) and introduced the importance of vermicomposting.
