This year, we are glad to partner with NParks to educate children about the native flora and fauna in Singapore as well as the roles the respective organisms play in the environment. Through the lesson plans and activities provided by NParks, the children got the opportunities to appreciate our biodiversity and learn the importance of nature conservation in Singapore. The lesson consists of an animated video and an associated activity book, Bobby and the Lost Seed. The lessons encourage children to observe their environment and talk about living things, places, and events, be aware of their roles and responsibilities in conserving our native flora and fauna, learn more about Singapore’s biodiversity, and encourage them to ask questions and seek answers by gathering information from different sources. Through the lessons, the children learnt about the common flowers, trees, plants, and birds in Singapore. They became more observant when they walked in the park and they could share their own personal experiences and knowledge with the others. The activities also provided an opportunity for the children to create 3 dimensional trees with the cardboards. Through this activity book, the children have developed a deeper understanding of the world around them.
