In August, we focused on Pets for our last part of 2020 SSDB project: Animal Conservation. We hope to encourage children to think about animals and animal welfare, particularly as it applies to pets. It will help them understand that animals need and want many of the basic things that humans need and want, and how humans can help provide those things for their pets.
Body language of pets like cats and dogs were covered in lessons to allow children to know more on how they communicate with us although they cannot speak. We ended this part of the project with role-play in class using the pet masks they have created.
We also highlighted how abandoning pets is a cruel act as it will affect them physically and emotionally. We emphasised the importance of becoming responsible owners towards the pets.
Moving forward, we hope to work with Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for our SSDB closure in October!
