The children embarked on a journey, themed ‘Kindness’ for their SSDB Project.
We kickstarted the project by using storybooks to introduce the importance of kindness. Children as active learners were invited to share what they have learned and they were given opportunities to re-enact different scenarios using the puppets which they had a lot of fun in doing so.
Some of the takeaways include learning to say ‘Please’ when asking for help, ‘Thank You’ when someone helps them and ‘Sorry’ when they hurt someone accidentally.
We then moved on to create a Kindness Cloud using resources like drawing papers, oil pastels and colour papers. Children were invited to brainstorm a list of kindness words. Then, using their creativity, they began to make and create their individual Kindness cloud. We had a show-and-tell after that to enable children to share some of the Kindness words they have chosen.
We also reinforced the concept of ‘Kindness’ at home through the Kindness Calendar whereby children are encouraged to complete a few tasks from the calendar.
Lastly, we had a donation drive where children were encouraged to donate essential household items for the elderly in the community.
The reponse from our parents was great and after the collection, we helped to sort the rations out and packed them in boxes. These donations were then picked up by the delivery man to send to THK Senior Activity Centre @ Henderson to be distributed out to the needy seniors and families.
Although our project has ended, we will continue to show kindness to the environment and to those in need.
