The learning journey to Garden by the Bay early this year sparked an interest and love for nature in children. The children chose Gardening and Environment to learn, explore, gain more knowledge and apply it by giving back to the community. The K1 & K2 children spent their weekly nature walks in the school and community garden. They talked about different plants, vegetables and fruits. As curious learner’s, they asked the community garden helpers questions about planting and things they do as community gardeners. The little interview session cultivated interest and instilled ideas of doing gardening and showing appreciation to the community helpers. Thus, the children decided to grow fruits/vegetables as a surprise gift. This led to children growing spring onions in the school garden, and chili plant in their classroom. Also, the children contributed in creating their own SSDB corners in the classroom to do activities there and put up a gallery walk of their contributions. The learning and experience convinced the children that they want to be GardenHeroes and contribute in any way they can for a greener home.
