Our school, PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Ang Mo Kio-Hougang Blk 452 (DS) has chosen the topic “Caring For Our Environment” as our SSDB initiative for the year 2023. The theme of our project is “Waste is Not Waste until we Waste it”. Over the past few months, the children have been learning about the impact of waste and how they can do their part to help in reducing the amount of waste for a cleaner Earth. Noticing that waste is a problem is the first step in taking action to create a cleaner and more sustainable planet.
On 27th July 2023, K1s and K2s had a ‘Neighbourhood Clean Up’ day at Punggol Park together with our teachers and parent volunteers. We put on gloves and bring multiple trash bags to the park to make sure materials can be collected separately. We spotted items such as clean plastic wrappers, disposable masks and even plastic bottles! The children took turns and divided roles among themselves which made the activity enjoyable!
Just because it’s waste, doesn’t mean it can’t be recycled. While it may take a little more time and planning, sorting the items collected separately into trash and recycling can give the waste a second life. This will also reduce the overall waste we send to the landfill. And hence, our K2s brought the items collected back to their classroom and sort out the items accordingly. GREAT JOB TO OUR K2s!
Remember, “Waste is Not Waste until we Waste it”. Let us continue to do our part to care for our environment and protect our planet, Earth.
