In conjunction with the ‘Start Small Dream Big’ project, a food donation drive was set up to encourage parents to donate food items to St. Luke Eldercare. Using children as advocates for the food donation drive, we integrated lessons in caring for the elderly in a meaningful way to instil values of empathy, compassion, respect and responsibility.
Parents generously donated a range of food items, including coffee, milo powder, oatmeal, rice, dried longan and dried red dates, as a way for us to reach out and contribute to our community.
Children were actively involved in the donation drive by helping to collect and organise the donated items accordingly. Throughout the learning process, children reflected on their experiences and what they have learned.
In this project, we have cultivated a meaningful learning experience for the children, emphasising both academic exploration and community involvement. It’s benefits the elderly community and imparted children in developing important life skills and values.
