MOE Kindergarten @ Punggol View - SSDB Blooms of Joy

Our centre launched the ‘Start Small, Dream Big’ party on 12 May 2022. The children participated in the launch party by making giant letters and numbers ‘SSDB 2022’ using recycled cereal boxes and thereafter painted them in rainbow colours.

The children brainstormed several ideas on how they could help the elderly from Bright Hill Evergreen Home. They got to know more about this home when they went on a virtual walk around the neighbourhood.

The children decided to make flowers from recyclables such as egg cartons and tissue boxes. We held a Recycling Drive where parents were involved in contributing recyclables. The children also decided to put up a virtual performance to cheer up the elderly.

The school also held a Donation Drive to collect daily necessities such as coffee, milo, milk powder, jam, mouthwash and adult diapers. Thanks to our parents’ overwhelming support, our centre collected more than 20 boxes of donation-in-kind.The children then helped to sort the items into boxes. These were then delivered to Bright Hill Evergreen Home.

The day of the virtual performance finally came on 12 August 2022 and the children were extremely excited to showcase their performances for the elderly. They performed several National Day songs as well as songs that they had learned during their Mother Tongue lessons. They also exercised together with the elderly by doing this year’s National Day Workout.

Our centre concluded the project by getting the children to reflect and express their thoughts through drawing and writing in the SSDB Reflection Journal.

Through this project, the children nurtured care and developed empathy as they engaged in meaningful activities to give back to society. The children also experienced the joy of giving as they were provided with the opportunities to serve others.
