What better way to teach children about nature then to experience it themselves?
For most of the children in our centre, this was a whole new experience. It was the first time interacting and exploring with materials such as soil, onions, garlic and ginger.
They were given ample oppotunities to explore these materials using their 5 senses. Some of the children were able to relate with the smells of the onions, garlic and ginger to when it is cook at home.
Our mini herbs garden wouldn’t be such a success without the help of our supportive parents who helped to bring in the materials for the garden. We also have parents helping us to carry out the plants into the sunlight every morning and ensuring that it is well watered by the children.
What a wonderful learning environmennt we have here in our centre!
The children were very involved in the garden and became responsible of caring for the plants for the past months. It has been a routine to water and observe the growth of the plants every day in school.
They were also able to suggest to add more oil to the plants as the plant grows.
This was what our mini herbs garden looks like. The children and teachers felt really satisfied watching the growth of the plants.
We hope that we can use the skills we have learnt from this journey to create a bigger garden for our school.
It was indeed a fruitful experience as the children watched the plants grow.
As for us, the educators, it was really satisfying to see how the children grows to be responsible of caring for the plants and be more aware of the environment around them.
