Our SSDB 2019 launch party involved parents’ participation to support our theme for this year “Miss Waste meets Mr Zero”.
Our launch party started with the N2s performing “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” song. The children practiced to perform the item in front of the parents to create awareness on how can we seperate materials into different recycling bins.
There were signs, concrete materials and bins made using recycled materials.
After the performance by the N2s, the teachers came up with a skit tittled “Miss Waste meets Mr Zero”, two characters to show how and when recycling can be done. Miss Waste loves to waste and Mr Zero always came to her rescue to teach her how to reduce, reuse and recycle.
After the skit, the children went to their groups to carry out different activities which complimented the theme “Zero Waste”.
The N2 group had gathered all the papers that can be reused to make their “Zero Waste” collage. Parents were invited to join their children to complete the activity.
The parents of the K1 children, together with the children helped to recreate modals of the neighbourhood using only recycled items. They even named their towns.
The K2 children were assigned to design their own pots for growing their plants using recycled items. They painted and gave their own design to their flower pots using milk cartons and cardboards.
We will be carrying out more activities to create awareness. Do keep a lookout! 😀
