Our centre celebrated Racial Harmony Day on 21st July 2022. Racial Harmony Day is not just another school event but one to commemorate the communal riots that took place in Singapore back in 1964. It is also a reminder to all Singaporeans, the importance of maintaining racial and religious harmony in Singapore’s multicultural and multi-ethnic society.
The seniors from the NTUC SAC were invited to join our Teachers and Champs from the K2 Gratitude Class in this virtual community outreach event to celebrate Racial Harmony Day. The seniors had the opportunity to reminisce some of the traditional games they have played in their childhood days such as pick-up sticks, five stones, congkak, capteh, hopscotch, kuti-kuti and many more.
The objective of this event was to bond different races together through food. Food brings people together in communal living. We can share our culture and heritage through food. Some famous local cuisines include Indian roti prata, Malay longtong, and Chinese youtiao with porridge, etc. The Seniors and our Champs were engaged in making “Ya Kun” style butter sugar toast. Technically, the recipe is just toasted bread, butter, and sugar.
The seniors were treated to dance performances by our K2 Gratitude Champs after enjoying their butter sugar toast.
