On 10 May 2021, the N1 children learned about the importance of conserving water! They completed a poster and pledged to save water. This time round, children got the opportunity to understand the importance of having water on earth and ways which we could save our ocean. To kick start the activity, the N1 children were introduced to two videos; “Turn Off The Tap” by SGPUB and “Save My World 2016” by Mediacorp. They danced and sang along to the videos!
With their prior knowledge on how to save water, we focused on the topic on “How to Save Our Ocean!” We rewind back to the scene in the “Save My World 2016” video where children saw the octopus helping to clear the rubbish in the polluted ocean. After discussing on how it is harmful for the sea creatures to live in and how they can help to keep the ocean clean, children went on to complete the activities.
In the first activity, children got the opportunity to role play as different sea creatures swimming in the ocean. Children had a tough time ‘swimming’ as there were many ‘rubbish’ in the ocean. After completing the activity, children discussed on why they were having a tough time ‘swimming’ in the ocean.
Next, children had to identify the trash that was polluting the sea! They picked up the trash one by one and now the ocean is clean for the sea creatures to be in!
After completing all the activities, children were able to put these good habits into action. Children would share that
‘Teacher, I off the tap after I wash my hands. I can save the baby sharks.‘
‘Why are there rubbish in the tank? We throw the rubbish in the rubbish bin.’ as they proceed to throw the rubbish into the rubbish bin.
Children got to cultivate the good habit of saving water – be it water conservation or keeping the sea clean.
Water = Life, Conservation = Future.
