The children were introduced to the theme this year on ‘Our Family, Our Community’. We had a discussion and the children decided that they would like to lend a helping hand in restoring our Earth! To kickstart our project, the children were engaged in creating the decorations for our Earth Day celebration. We used recyclable materials such as cardboard boxes for the bins and newspaper for the tree.
During our Earth Day celebration, we then reinforced the importance and various ways of protecting our environment such as recycling!
“We need to throw the plastic bottles into the plastic bin and the cardboard box into the paper bin!”
“Quickly! We need to take out all the trash to save the ocean animals!”
The children participated actively in the games and demonstrated empathy as they shared how they felt after watching the video - ‘A Whale’s Tale’ for our closure. Some of them commented, ‘ I feel sad when I saw the ocean animals get trapped in the trash.’
Thus, the children had fun as they learnt the importance of restoring our Earth through interactive and hands-on activities. They exhibited good understanding and problem-solving skills as they applied their knowledge during discussions.
