Our school, PCF Sparkletots Preschool @ Ang Mo Kio-Hougang Blk 452 (DS) has chosen the topic “Caring For Our Environment” as our SSDB initiative for the year 2023. The theme of our project is “Waste is Not Waste until we Waste it ”. The first step to this project was educating the children on ‘Caring for our Environment’.
In May, our children were given opportunities to share how they have done their part in caring for their environment on a daily basis. Their voices were recorded on mindmaps. Next, teachers used books and educational videos to show the children on other ways to show care towards our environment. Through the book ‘Reduce Reuse Recycle, Care for our Environment’ by NEA, the children were introduced to the 3Rs and the importance of them. In addition, they learnt the different ways on how they can reduce, reuse or recycle the waste at home or school. By reducing, it means lessening the amount of waste/trash produced. Reusing refers to using materials more than once while recycling means creating a new product out of the waste/trash. In summary, they gained a deeper understanding on how applying these 3Rs can help to care for our environment.
The children shared that they are looking forward to learn more about the 3Rs in the coming months!
