After the neighbourhood clean-up project, the K2 children sat down and had a discussion about what they picked up and their thoughts about it. Some of the issues raised by the children includes:
• Why were there so many tissues and plastics on the floor? The rubbish bin was so near.
• The uncle has to clean up every day, it is so tiring. We should help him!
• The leaves that dropped will become rubbish. Can we use them?
That led us to our next discussion on what can be done to the things they picked up. Some of the children suggested that we can use the plastic bottles for planting, just like they did at home. It was a great suggestion, but we also recognised the danger of contamination and spread of viruses in this period.
Eventually, we decided to create a handmade door wreath using the leaves we picked up. During the activity, the children attempted to create simple AB and ABB pattern using different types of leave. Additionally, they also got to observe the spores, shape and patterns on each leaf.
The K2 children were very happy with the end result and they cannot wait to put it up on their room door when they reach home!
