The K1 children also made use of the leaves and twigs they picked up to create an artwork back in the classroom. Initially, the children asked the teachers if they could bring home the leaf and use it as a bookmark. What an innovative idea to put natural items to good use!
However, due to the recent Covid-19 cases and wet weather conditions, the teachers explained to the children that the leaves might not be in the safest and cleanest conditions to be used as bookmarks,
The teacher then facilitated the children’s discussions to think of ways on how we can still make use of the leaves and turn it into something useful? One of the children slide his finger along the veins on the leaves and said, “Maybe we can print them out?”, and that was exactly what the K1 explorers did!
The children painted over the leaves that they picked up and imprinted it onto a rectangular piece of paper. They were in awe of the natural prints and different designs they observed on each individual leaves. Thereafter, the teacher laminated the papers to make it into a plastic bookmark for the children. It was a great way to connect to the nature and turning them into beautiful artwork while keeping our neighbourhood clean and tidy! Great job, K1 explorers!
