“Green Up, Clean Up: Zero Waste for a Better Tomorrow” is the driving force behind our collaboration with our Family Day event as well as the vision from E-Bridge @ Bukit Batok. We aim to educate and empower the K1 and K2 children in recycling and upcycling their daily waste into useful materials or beautiful art work.
During the month of April (2023), the K1 children (K1A, K1B and K1C) were invited to create a mural using bottle caps, inspired by Shen Maofu, a 77 years old man who took half a year to complete the 6m by 4m mural on the ground of Bedok. They were astonished by the man’s efforts and dedication. Being inspired, the children expressed interest in wanting to create a bottle caps mural of their own.
The three classes embarked on their journey recycling bottle caps. We partnered up with the families and within a matter of two weeks, we had amassed a sizeable collection of bottle caps. Upon completion of the mural, the children related back to what they had learnt and illustrated and shared the different ways of how we can protect the Earth. This project will also be extended upon and taken in the direction of ocean conservation, tying in with what the children have been learning about water conservation.
