Singapore has an alarming rate of food waste, which most people are unaware of. During our talks with parents, we discovered that most children tend to waste their uneaten food at the end of the day because they are picky eaters. Similarly, there will be wastage in schools when children spill or refuse to eat. Increasing amounts of food waste mean a need for more space to dispose of unconsumed food. In addition, all of the resources used to grow, deliver, and dispose of the food increases our carbon footprint, which contributed to global warming and climate change. It is vital to minimise food waste and to recycle or treat unavoidable food waste in order to conserve precious resources. The first step in preventing waste is to limit food wastage at home and in schools. In our project, we aim for the children to learn how to minimise food waste and in turn, sharing their findings with their family. They will also learn how to give back to the environment and community by composting and converting food waste into environmentally friendly products.
