The children from The Little Skool-House (On-the-Green) had their SSDB project launch during the circuit breaker month where they had online classes via Zoom. A BBC news article titled, âRare white giraffes poached in Kenyaâ was shared to children to kickstart their awareness of endangered animals. Through a discussion, children learnt about the repercussions of mankind that were harmful towards the wildlife.Â
Subsequent activities included the introduction of extinct animals. Children learnt the causes of how these animals came to be extinct, for instance, the dodo bird was hunted to extinction many years ago.
At home, they did a research on endangered animals and attempted to find out why some of these animals were on the verge of extinction! They then brought their findings to share with their peers. These animals included rhinoceros, orang utan and sea turtles.
Moving forward, children learnt about detrimental effects of oil toward the sea creatures which may be one of the causes that kills sea animals.
As they returned to school, a recap of the activities that were done online was conducted with the children. They also shared how they can help look after the wildlife while trying their best in ensuring that these animals would not face extinction anytime soon!
I will not pour oil into the water!
I will stop the hunters from taking the animals.
I will ask the zookeepers to bring the endangered animals to the zoo!
