Today marks the completion of our K1 & K2 children 2-day external initiative, as they headed off to ACRES early this morning to wash the vegetables they had harvested yesterday as part of the food preparation process for the animals.
Afterwhich, the children attended a talk given by the very passionate staff at ACRES on their Mission since 2001; to advocate for an end to animal cruelty. The children also learnt that at ACRES, they help rescued animals with their recovery and rehabilitation process with hopes of returning them back to the wild.
The talk was followed by a tour of the grounds and where the children saw the Common Snapping Turtle, Indian Star Tortoise, African Spurred Tortoise and the Pig-Nosed Turtle being fed the radishes, butterheads, green corals and red oats they had harvested yesterday!
Through today’s experience, the children found the joy in labouring for a greater cause. They also grew to appreciate the preparation process behind the yummy food they see laid out for them in school and at home.
