We did an art and craft activity using recycled materials on 9th July 2018 as our second phase of the SSDB project. A parent volunteer, who is also an art teacher (Teacher Fitz) came down to do the activity with the children.
Children brought various recycle materials from home to do this activity. They brought milk cartons, ice cream boxes, and cereal boxes. The parent discussed with the children about a boat and the parts of a boat. She also talked to them about the different recycle materials hat they will be using to make their “boat”.
Then she got the children to paint their “boat”. Here are some pictures of the children painting their “boats”.
Once the children were done, the left it to dry and started to make their sail. The children used the chopstick as their mast and painted it black.
Next, Teacher Fitz demonstrated how to fold the craft paper to make the sail for the boat. Once she was done, the children folded craft paper as their sail and pasted the chopstick inside the craft paper.
Lastly, when their boats were dried, the children pasted bottle caps as the bow and rudder of the boat. This is the end product of their boat.
