The Gruffalo is a much-loved picture book among our little innovators. This classic children’s book is great fun to read aloud thanks to its short rhymes and repetitive structure. The colourful illustrations and exciting story plot keep the children interested to see how the clever mouse will outsmart his predators each time.
Here’s what happened… “A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood. A fox saw the mouse and the mouse looked good.” Hmmm, how does the mouse escape from the fox?
Following our SSDB theme “We Heartly Connect”, Little Atlas’s mission for this Learning Adventure was to provide an opportunity for our little innovators to appreciate performance arts. They joined Mouse live on stage at Victoria Theatre on a daring adventure through the deep, dark wood. In this musical adaptation of the classic picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, the children witnessed first-hand as the adventure of Mouse and his dangerous encounter with The Gruffalo unfolded before their eyes.
Will the story of the terrifying Gruffalo save Mouse from ending up as dinner for these hungry woodland creatures? After all, there’s no such thing as a Gruffalo – is there? After a full 60 minutes of fun and laughter with no intervals, the children were left on the edge of their seats. We have never seen them so engrossed in a story quite like this before. They continued their breakdown of the story and had discussions about the characters even a week after they had watched the play.
We hope to have many more experiences like this, where our innovators get the chance to literally immerse themselves in books and stories, and connect with their favourite characters on a personal level.
