Our first project was the ‘Cleaner’s Appreciation Day’ last 20th May 2017, which we did in collaboration with Pasir Ris - Punggol Town Council. We thought of this project because we wanted to show our heartfelt gratitude to the hardworking cleaners around our neighbourhood. We believe that they also need to be acknowledged for keeping the surroundings clean, and so this is our way of thanking them.
Prior to date, the K1 and K2 children prepared an artwork to be presented to the town council as a token of appreciation for their unwavering support in this event. There was also a baking session where the children, together with their teachers baked chocolate muffins and cornflake cookies as giveaways for the cleaners, our GOH, Dr Janil Puthucheary and as well as for everyone who helped us in making this project possible.
The K1 and K2 children helped in measuring the ingredients, mixing them, and scooping the mixture into the paper cups.
At the day of the event, the children worked together with the cleaners in decorating postcards, which were later on mailed to their hometowns.
During the programme, Dr Janil Puthucheary also helped in giving out the NTUC vouchers for the cleaners.
A lot of other activities were prepared for everyone present. There was a magic show which the participating K1 and K2 children really enjoyed, and a Bhangra Dance performace. Later after the performance, some of the teachers and cleaners also participated and learned some of the basic steps. The children also performed the songs ‘A Surprise for You’ and ‘Tho Tho Naai Kutty’.
Everyone enjoyed the catered lunch and the food that some of our generous parents brought for the potluck sharing. It was indeed a memorable day as it ended giving everyone smiles and hearts full of generosity and gratitude.
